TSA finds handgun hidden inside DVD player
TSA officers at New York’s JFK Airport ‘foiled’ an elaborate plan to sneak a gun aboard a plane.
A man from Queens was arrested after he wrapped a gun in aluminum foil which was then hidden inside a hollowed out DVD player in a checked bag.
He was then tracked down in the terminal and taken into custody as he waited at the gate for his flight to Mexico.
The 9 mm firearm was not loaded.
He was charged with weapons violations.
In 2018, 4,239 firearms were discovered in carry-on bags at TSA screening checkpoints around the country, which averages at nearly a dozen firearms every day.
Unloaded firearms can only be transported in hard sided, locked checked baggage and declared on arrival at the departure airport.
