TSA screened a record 72 million air travelers in July

Despite a succession of airline scandals and mishaps, there has been no sign of weakened demand for air travel this summer.

The Transportation Security Administration said it handled a record high number of screenings at the nation’s airports in July.

"July 2017 was TSA’s highest volume month on record in TSA’s history, with 72,117,046 passengers and crew screened at checkpoints nationwide," said TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein.

That equates to 2.3 million flyers daily and includes those covered by PreCheck expidited screening.

The previous record was in June 2017.

The airport crush is set to continue through summer with airlines reporting passenger loadings at over 80% and the highest overall air traffic growth for more than a decade.
