TSA sets all-time record for airport screenings
The Transportation Security Administration screened a record number of air travelers as Americans returned home from the holidays.
The TSA says it handled 3.09 million travelers on Sunday beating the previous July 2024 record by about 74,000.
In fact, the past 10 record highs for single day air traveler numbers have come in the last six months.
The Sunday after Thanksgiving is traditionally among the busiest days of the year for air travel.
“December 1st was the busiest day ever for TSA – our officers screened 3.087 million individuals at airports nationwide. If you’re still traveling home from the Thanksgiving holiday, please arrive at the airport early,” the agency posted on social media.
For some, bad weather caused significant disruption.
Airlines canceled over 100 flights while several thousand flights were delayed.
The most delays were at major air hubs Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta and Chicago’s O’Hare Airport.
