TSA still failing to spot fake guns in undercover tests
TSA agents are still missing most fake knives, guns, and explosives brought through screening checkpoints by Department of Homeland Security undercover officers,
TSA agents flunked the latest government test more than 70% of the time, and even that is an improvement – just.
Two years ago, a similar undercover operation found the TSA spectacularly failed to spot weapons 95% of the time.
The findings are classified but ABC News reported the failure rate was nearer 80%.
It is still way below what is expected and the results are ‘disturbing’ said Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security.
"This agency that you run is broken badly, and it needs your attention," committee member Rep. Mike Rogers told TSA Administrator David Pekoske.
The report ‘identified vulnerabilities with TSA’s screener performance, screening equipment, and associated procedures,’ ABC reported.
"We take the findings very seriously and are implementing measures that will improve screening effectiveness at checkpoints. We are focused on staying ahead of a dynamic threat to aviation with continued investment in the workforce, enhanced procedures, and new technologies," Pekoske said in a statement.
