Turkish Airlines flight diverted after bomb threat
An investigation is underway after a flight from New York to Istanbul was diverted to Canada after a bomb scare.
The Turkish Airlines flight, carrying 256 people, had just taken off from JFK when the threat was made.
It was diverted to Halifax in eastern Canada and searched. No device was found.
The incident happened at 22.50 local time on Saturday night, 02.50 on Sunday GMT.
It is the latest scare to affect air travel amid heightened tensions following the terror attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.
Last week, two Air France flights from the US to Paris were diverted because of bombs threats and a flight from from Warsaw to Hurghada was diverted after a passenger ‘joked’ about having explosives on board.
Also last week, hundreds of passengers were evacuated from Copenhagen’s international airport after ‘an overheard conversation about a bomb’ and the following day two men were arrested at Manchester Airport on suspicion of making a bomb hoax which led to the evacuation of an easyJet flight to Marrakech.
