Two Britons killed in French forest fires
Thousands evacuated because of massive blazes in popular holiday region
Two British holidaymakers are believed to have been killed in enormous forest fires that are sweeping through parts of southern France.
A pair of elderly hikers were reported missing near the village of Vidauban, north of St Tropez, and French police have confirmed they have found two bodies but that they have not been identified.
Two others have also been killed in the fires, according to the online news provider Ananova. The website reports that thousands of holidaymakers have been forced to leave the region because of the fires, which have broken out after weeks of very dry conditions and high temperatures.
Hundreds of firefighters have been called in to fight the succession of blazes, while army troops are also involved in battling the fires. According to the BBC News website, the worst of the fires has already destroyed more than 7,000 hectares of forest in the Maures Hills, close to St Tropez.
