Another deadly boat accident occurred in Thailand this week, raising more concerns over the safety record of speedboat operators and oversight by officials.

Two Chinese tourists died when two speedboats slammed into each other, police said.

Three other Chinese tourists were critically injured in the collision near Phi Phi island.

"Two Chinese tourists died, one man and one woman, while 20 sustained injuries, three of whom are in critical condition," said Prasert Srikhunrat, deputy commander of Phuket Marine Police.

Four tourists were killed on May 26 when a speedboat overturned after being buffeted by strong waves off the island of Koh Samui.

Thailand’s ministry of tourism urged all marine transport and travel industry stakeholders to boost oversight of all operators following the incident.
