Two die in Loch Lomond hotel fire
Two people have died in a major fire at the five-star Cameron House Hotel, near Balloch, on the banks of Loch Lomond.
More than 200 guests were evacuated from the hotel after the alarm was raised just before 7am on Monday morning.
Police said one person was pronounced dead at the scene while another died in hospital.
Three others were taken to hospital in Glasgow.
Guests included a baby who was rescued by firefighters from the third floor, where he had been staying with his parents, who were on honeymoon.
One guest told BBC Radio Scotland she initially thought the fire alarm was a drill.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it had deployed 12 appliances to the scene and around 70 firefighters tackled the blaze.
The hotel, which is a popular golfing and wedding venue and which houses the Michelin-starred Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond restaurant, has suffered extensive damage.
The hotel posted a statement on its website saying: "Due to an ongoing incident please be aware that Cameron House will remain closed to arriving guests for at least the next 48 hours.
"We would ask all guests and customers to remain patient as we work with the emergency services to establish the extent of the damage and ascertain when we will be able to re-open.
"More information will follow in due course."
