Two guilty of plot to bomb JFK Airport
Two Islamist militants face life prison sentences after being found guilty of plotting to bomb New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport.
Russell Defreitas had worked at the airport and provided inside knowledge of its facilities and layout to his accomplice Abdul Kadir, an engineer, according to US prosecutors.
Officials said the two men were arrested in June 2007 while the plot was still in its infancy.
Another man who was arrested with the pair, Kareem Ibrahim, has avoided trial due to ill-health but he may be tried later. A fourth man, Abdel Nur, pleaded guilty in June to a separate charge of material support to terrorism.
All three guilty men will be sentenced later.
