Two jets in near miss with drone over New York
The Department of Homeland Security issued a warning that drones could be used in a possible terrorist attack, after two planes reported near misses with a drone close to New York JFK airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating two separate incidents involving drones in the space of a few hours.
Delta Air Lines flight 407 from Orlando came within about 100 feet of the unmanned aerial vehicle as it came in to land at JFK.
"We are investigating and cooperating fully with the Federal Aviation Administration," said a Delta spokesman.
Earlier a JetBlue flight from Haiti also reported a close call with a drone, passing just below the plane’s nose, according to air traffic control audio recordings.
Both flights landed without incident and the FAA is unclear whether the same drone was involved in both mid-air scares.
The FAA says it reports about 25 drone incidents every month.
