More than 40,000 people have been moved into shelters in the southern Philippines which was hit by a powerful typhoon early this morning.
Typhoon Bopha made landfall on Mindanao, bringing heavy rain and wind gusts of 130mph which caused widespread power cuts, travel disruption and flooding in areas at risk of landslides.
At least one person is believed to have died in the typhoon which came a year after Typhoon Washi killed more than 1,500 people in the southern Philippines.
The eye of the 600km-wide storm is sweeping west across the country and is expected to bring heavy rain and flooding to the southern and central provinces before reaching the South China Sea.
