Uber being probed for alleged overseas bribery
New CEO Dara Khosrowshahi steps into the hot seat at Uber and will immediately face a potentially damaging new scandal.
Uber is being investigated by the Department of Justice over claims it bribed foreign officials.
Managers at Uber may have violated US laws over the bribing of foreign officials, the Wall St Journal reported.
It may be tied to how Uber was able to access the medical records of an Indian woman who was raped by an Uber driver in 2014.
Reuters reported earlier this year that Uber had hired a law firm to investigate that.
Uber said it was cooperating fully with a ‘preliminary investigation’ but decline to gibe further details.
The investigation centers around whether Uber employees violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
Khosrowshahi was officially confirmed as Uber’s new CEO as he penned a farewell note to Expedia employees and was welcomed into the fold by Uber.
"The board and the executive leadership team are confident that Dara is the best person to lead Uber into the future building world-class products, transforming cities, and adding value to the lives of drivers and riders around the world," the company said.
