Unclaimed baggage piling up at airports
Mountains of passengers’ baggage have been forming at airports around the country.
The biggest pile-up of luggage has been at Sea-Tac Airport where flight cancellations and delays have been in their hundreds on a daily basis.
More than 2,000 flights have been cancelled there during the holiday travel season.
Hundreds of passengers are still struggling to reclaim their bags, because of the cancellations, delays and missed connections.
"Our Central Baggage Services office and a team of our management volunteers are methodically sorting and calling guests using the contact information on each bag. We’re offering our guests the option of in-person pick-up, FedEx or local courier delivery, "Alaska Airlines said.
Alaska Airlines cut the number of flights by about 20% out of Sea-Tac for days as bad weather compounded the short staffing every airline is contending with due to surging Omicron infections.
Lack of staff is causing delays in travellers reuniting with their bags.at Denver Airport.
With a shortage of ground crews, passengers are having to claim their bags through customer service.
It was a similar situation at Reagan National Airport this week.
