United Airlines adopting UnionPay credit card payments

Sunday, 25 Jan, 2017 0
Ever keen to grab more business from the still growing China market, United Airlines has teamed up with UnionPay International and third party processor Planet Payment to adopt UnionPay credit card payments.

UnionPay can now be used for reservations and other ticketing purchases online or via call centers.

"As a global airline with customers across the world, United places tremendous value in providing customers with easy, flexible, and secure options for payment when choosing to fly with us. UnionPay credit card acceptance, with the help of Planet Payment, gives our valued customers the ability to use UnionPay card products directly with United," said Praveen Sharma, United’s VP of loyalty.

The partnership supports the adoption of UnionPay credit cards only initially, with the acceptance of UnionPay debit cards expected at a later date.

China is by far the world’s largest outbound market with more than 120 million taking overseas trips in 2015.

"We are excited to announce the launch of our UnionPay solution with United Airlines. Our goal is to broaden payment acceptance for UnionPay cardholders around the globe," said Paul Levine, Planet Payment SVP.
