United Airlines beefs up Hawaii routes
United Airlines aims to be the premier carrier connecting Hawaii with a big expansion from four US hubs.
Overall it will add capacity on 11 routes beginning on December 20.
United’s Chicago O’Hare to Maui service gets an upgrade to five flights a week from the current Saturdays only service.
From San Francisco there are extra frequencies to Kona, Lihue and Maui and up to double daily to Kona and Lihue from LAX.
At Denver United will make current seasonal services to Kona, Lihue and Maui year-round.
"Our customers have asked for more ways to get to Hawaii, and by adding these flights we are thrilled to make Hawaii more accessible than ever for our customers traveling from the Midwest, Rocky Mountain and West Coast regions," said Jake Cefolia, United’s vice president of sales.
From this summer, premium cabin passengers will get lie-flat seating on overnight flights to Hawaii from Chicago, Denver, Houston, Newark and Washington Dulles.
"This combination of increased and enhanced service by United Airlines is fantastic news for Hawaii’s tourism industry, especially with the number of direct flights being added to Maui, Kauai and island of Hawaii," said George D. Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
"United’s customers anywhere in the nation will have easy access to all of Hawaii’s major islands and be able to experience our Aloha spirit."
