United Airlines and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey have signed a 20-year lease extension through which United will invest $150 million in Newark Liberty International Airport.

Included in the improvements to its New York-area hub are a new widebody maintenance hangar, a $100 million "in-line" baggage-screening system, and a new $65 million catering facility.

United is the New York area’s largest airline, with more flights and more seats from the region to more destinations around the world than any other airline. From Newark Liberty, United offers more than 400 flights daily to 150 destinations.

United and its airport partners are investing $1 billion to improve United’s airport facilities worldwide this year.

United also is spending $50 million to renovate several of its 51 United Club locations.
