United Airlines hikes bag fees
United Airlines is the first major carrier to follow JetBlue in hiking bag fees.
Like JetBlue, it has increased checked bag fees by $5.
The first checked bag now costs $35 and $45 for the second.
The current $30 and $40 fees are still available if booked and paid for before online check-in.
United says any customers who booked tickets before February 21 will be exempt from the increase.
According to spokesperson Maddie King, the hike covers domestic flights and short haul trips to the Caribbean and Latin America.
United waives bag fees for elite status loyalty members and holders of branded credit cards.
