United Airlines starts new trans-Pacific routes
US carrier United Airlines is launching four new Pacific routes this week.
First up is a non-stop service between Los Angeles and Melbourne and San Francisco-Tokyo Haneda on Sunday October 26.
The airline will also launch two new routes from its Guam hub to Seoul and Shanghai on October 27 and 28 respectively.
"These four new routes further strengthen United’s presence in the Pacific, already the most extensive among US airlines," said Brian Znotins, United’s vice president of network.
"New nonstop services to Melbourne and Haneda from our West Coast hubs and the additional new flights from our Guam hub to both Seoul and Shanghai offer our customers convenience and schedule options that no other airline can offer," he added.
With the addition of flights to Tokyo’s Haneda, United serves both of Tokyo’s main airports from the west coast.
The carrier operates daily flights to Tokyo Narita from Chicago, Denver, Guam, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Hawaii and Washington.
United has also bolstered its airlift to and from Guam, which it has been serving for the last 40 years.
The daily Seoul service and twice weekly flights to Shanghai are new milestones for the Pacific Ocean territory with the Shanghai flights becoming the first nonstop service to the Chinese mainland from Guam.
