United Airlines unveils new Polaris international business class

Wednesday, 03 Jun, 2016 0
United Airlines wants to lure more lucrative international business travelers by sending them to sleep.

The carrier’s re-imagined business class service, called Polaris, will feature a ‘sleep-focused’ configuration, replacing seats with an ‘onboard suite.’

Polaris will be gradually rolled out on long-haul international flights beginning in December, with pod-style compartments with flat beds and direct aisle access.

Polaris amenities include slippers, pajamas on longer flights, Saks Fifth Avenue branded bedding and a ‘do not disturb’ sign, and meal service will be refreshed.

"This completely reconceived experience exemplifies the new spirit of United and the innovation, excitement and operational momentum across our airline," United CEO Oscar Munoz said.

The Polaris branding will also feature in airport lounges, starting with Chicago O’Hare on December 1, 2016.

Polaris will then expand to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Newark, Washington Dulles, Tokyo Narita, Hong Kong and London Heathrow in 2017.

The new upgraded lounges will have private day beds, separate sleep pods, showers and hot meals.
