United flight diverted after apparent bomb threat
Two people were briefly detained and a United Airlines flight was diverted after a mid-flight bomb threat incident.
The flight from Jackson, Mississippi to Houston was diverted to the England Airpark, Louisiana.
The aircraft landed safely without incident and passengers were deplaned, local police said.
Nothing suspicious was found on the plane.
The flight was met by the airport’s fire department, local police and bomb squad.
The FBI was also called to the scene.
"FBI New Orleans is aware of the incident which occurred at the Alexandria, LA airport today. We are thankful to report there was no threat to public safety and all diverted airline passengers have proceeded to their destinations," the FBI said.
The two detained were later released and described as ‘juveniles.’
They are unlikely to face any criminal charges, according to an attorney for one of the individuals.
A statement by United described the incident as a ‘customer-related security issue.’
