United to acquire Spirit Airlines Chicago gates
Spirit Airlines is bringing in some much needed funds after agreeing to sell its remaining gates at Chicago O’Hare Airport.
United Airlines is buying the two gates for around $30.2 million.
This deal is expected to be finalized at a scheduled bankruptcy hearing later this month.
United acquired two of Sprit’s gates previously for a similar price.
Spirit will continue to fly to and from O’Hare using common-use gates.
The deal follows United’s renewed focus at Chicago amid intense rivalry with American Airlines.
United Airlines said it plans to reach 750 flights per day this summer from Chicago O’Hare flying to more than 200 destinations.
“This growth at O’Hare highlights our commitment to invest in our network, customers and hiring in the city we call home,” said United’s airport VP, Omar Idris.
