Universal files UK trademark application
Theme park operator Universal has cemented its plans for a UK presence with a formal application with the Intellectual Property Office.
It aims to trademark ‘Universal United Kingdom Resort.’
Universal officially announced plans this year to build its first UK park near Bedford.
The trademark application would allow it exclusive rights to the name at the park and for branded merchandise like toys, gifts and apparel.
Last month it filed for trademark protection for ‘Universal Studios Grand Hotel.’
The multi-billion-dollar theme park is expected to open in 2031.
Universal is touting the generation of more than 8,000 jobs.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently said of the project: “It’s going to put Bedford on the map for millions of people – film lovers, people coming here for fun, people building their careers.”
