US-India flight diverted due to reported bomb threat
An India bound American Airlines flight was diverted after another suspected bomb threat.
The New York JFK-Delhi flight landed safely at Rome Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport after reportedly being escorted by Italian Air Force jets.
The airline would only say it was diverted to Rome ‘due to a potential security threat onboard.’
“We are working closely with local authorities and will provide updates as the situation develops. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our passengers.”
India media has reported it was likely a fake bomb threat.
Indian airlines were badly impacted for several months during the second half of 2024 due to a constant stream of fake bomb threats.
There were more than 700 bomb threats received last year with the vast majority targeting Indian airlines.
Just 14 were aimed at flights operated by foreign airlines flying to and from India.
It was recently revealed 13 people were arrested on suspicion of making hoax bomb threats.
