US tourist admits guilt in Bali suitcase murder
US tourist Tommy Schaefer, one of two prime suspects held in the Bali suitcase murder, has confessed to the crime, Indonesian police say.
Schaefer admitted killing Sheila von Wiese Mack, 62 at the upscale St Regis hotel in the Nusa Dua resort area in Bali.
Schaefer’s girlfriend Heather Mack, the daughter of the victim, admitted helping stuff the body into a suitcase.
"Both suspects have confessed," said local police chief Djoko Heru Utomo, adding that the killing took place after an argument.
"The interrogation is continuing in order to get the full account," he said.
The body of the victim was discovered in a suitcase outside the exclusive hotel on August 12, shortly after the accused couple had fled.
They were both arrested the following day in a nearby resort.
If found guilty of premeditated murder, both Americans could face the death penalty under Indonesian law.
