US warning on Israel

Tuesday, 29 Apr, 2004 0

US citizens have been told that they should defer all travel to Israel, Gaza and the West Bank, with anyone in the country being warned that they should leave immediately.

The US State Department has stated that the militant group Hamas has made threats against US interest and that the situation “remains extremely volatile”.

The statement said: “The Department of State warns US citizens to depart Gaza immediately and to defer travel to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza due to current safety and security concerns. Statements have been made by Hamas elements and other terrorist groups threatening revenge against US interests following the killings of Hamas leaders in Gaza, which could include kidnappings.”

It continued to warn that US citizens should avoid “public places such as restaurants and cafes, shopping and market areas and malls, pedestrian zones, public buses and bus stops, and other crowded venues”.
