Utah’s Deer Valley ski resort being sold
Deer Valley Ski Resort in Utah is changing hands.
The newly formed business made up of affiliates of KSL Capital Partners and Henry Crown and Company is acquiring Deer Valley Resort for an undisclosed sum.
The new owners are the recently merged entity that controls Mammoth Mountain, Squaw Valley and Intrawest Resorts Holdings.
Park City’s Deer Valley Resort covers 2,026 acres of alpine skiing including 101 ski runs, 12 restaurants and hundreds of accommodations.
"Deer Valley Resort is one of the preeminent mountain resorts in the world and is a tremendous addition to our existing portfolio. Prior to this acquisition, we were able to offer our guests exceptional experiences throughout most of North America’s major ski regions, but we did not have a resort in Utah, a state that is renowned for great skiing and mountain town life," said David Perry, president and chief operating officer of the new joint venture.
"We look forward to working with the staff and Park City community to carry on the traditions that make it so special."
The new joint venture was formed earlier this year and has 12 other resorts, making it a viable competitor to the industry’s dominant operator, Colorado-based Vail Resorts.
The deal does not include the Deer Valley-owned Solitude Mountain Resort.
Resort spokeswoman Emily Summers told the Salt Lake Tribune Deer Valley’s policy as a skiers-only mountain will remain in place.
