Vancouver says sorry for riots

Saturday, 20 Jun, 2011 0

Vancouver is working hard to restore its image as one of the world’s most liveable cities following last week’s riots when the local ice hockey team, the Canucks, lost the final of the game’s top competition, the Stanley Cup.

“Apology Walls” have popped up in the city centre where locals pen their thoughts about the riots on the boarded up walls of the CBD and locals are offering ‘free hugs’ on the streets.

Tourism Vancouver has set up an online pride wall “This is our Vancouver” where Canadians and lovers of Canada can post videos, photos, blogs and comments about Vancouver.

The wall can also be shared on social media sites to spread the positive word.

“Sometimes the true spirit of a city comes through when times get tough” posts Amber Turneau with her YouTube video of the city’s Apology Walls that have also been dubbed the “wailing wall” and “poetry of the people” by other online posters.

Vancouver lovers can post their thoughts at http://thisisourvancouver.com
