Vanuatu volcano eruption triggers flight warnings
A Vanuatu volcano eruption has sparked air travel advisories.
Vanuatu’s East Epi underwater volcano erupted, belching ash clouds and steam up to 100 metres high.
Authorities designated a 10-kilometre ‘danger zone’ around the eruption site.
It is located about 70 kilometres from capital Port Vila.
Aircraft and ships have been warned to avoid the area.
Residents on nearby islands Epi and Tongoa have been advised to stay away from the coast.
“Eruptions are still ongoing,” said senior volcano officer Ricardo William.
‘People are advised to stay on alert.’
