Vegas Ferris wheel ride: Big enough for a small meeting

Wednesday, 10 Sep, 2013 0

If your meeting is small and won’t take too long, there’s a new venue for you in Vegas, as the world’s largest Ferris wheel comes to town.

Like a giant roulette wheel, the ride will spin over the city, likely attracting the millions of tourists and meeting attendees who flock to this town.

The outside wheel of the 55-story High Roller is scheduled to be put into place today, changing the skyline and offering a new tourist attraction.

The glass pods are each as big as a conference room.

They will hold 40 people for the half-hour ride, maybe just enough space and time for a small meeting, and certainly enough for a unique bonding experience.

While no food and beverage is available, guests can bring their own drinks, and video screens are available in every car.

The wheel is being built by Caesars Entertainment Corp. as part of its $550 million Linq development, across the street from Caesars Palace, scheduled to open this winter.

Caesars CEO Gary Loveman told Fortune magazine that research showed that 20 million people walked by the site in 2009, that the average age in Vegas is falling, and that fewer vistors are gambling and more are shopping, drinking and eating.

Groups are smaller, younger and richer, and that’s the clientele the Linq and its giant new ride hope to attract.

The High Roller will be 10 stories higher than the London Eye, which opened in 2000, and prices will be comparable (about $30), the company said.
