Villages near Stansted becoming ‘car parks’
Villages around Stansted are reportedly “being turned into car parks” because parking charges at the Essex airport are so high.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the airport’s authorities have promised an inquiry after the situation was revealed by villagers who say they cannot find room to park their own vehicles.
One driver is quoted as saying: “We left our car in Dunmow, which is seven miles away. It will cost us nothing for the week we are away. We caught the shuttle bus that links it with the airport. The fare is only a couple of pounds and the journey only takes a few minutes.”
Trevor Allen, parish council chairman in the village of Takely, tells the newspaper: “Some of these cars are parked dangerously near junctions or obstructing the roads and driveways. There is considerable amount of bad feeling in the village.”
BAA, which owns the airport, is now reportedly planning talks with Uttlesford District Council over the situation.
