Virgin Australia bans all Apple MacBooks from checked baggage
Virgin Australia is joining other global airlines in restricting Apple MacBooks from flights.
While airlines have banned some MacBook Pro models with potentially faulty batteries, Virgin has banned all models from checked baggage.
The carrier is taking no chances that any potentially hazardous laptops slip through unnoticed.
"ALL Apple MacBooks must be placed in carry-on baggage only. No Apple MacBooks are permitted in checked-in baggage until further notice," the airline said.
The 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold between September 2015 and February 2017 have potentially faulty batteries which could overheat and catch fire.
Apple issued a general recall and is replacing batteries free of charge.
Other airlines including Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and all US carriers have banned the affected models only from checked baggage or in the cabin.
Travellers with batteries already replaced by Apple must bring along documentation to prove this before checking in.
