Virgin Australia has revealed its new premium economy product called Economy X.

Due to officially roll out in May, Economy X feature extra legroom seating, plus additional perks including dedicated overhead bin space, priority boarding and priority screening on domestic flights.

Virgin is currently reconfiguring its Boeing 737s and hopes to complete the fleet by the end of May.

Economy X passengers receive an extra four inches of seat pitch.

Virgin says passengers can expect to pay $29 extra for a short domestic flight up to $149 more for a long haul trans-pacific journey.

The seats are free for elite Velocity members on domestic and short hail international services.

"We believe that it will revolutionise the domestic travel experience and give our customers that level of choice that’s never been seen in the Australian marketplace in the past," said Virgin’s airlines group executive John Thomas.

"What we found was they want speed on the ground and space in the air and that is basically what we give you with Economy X."

On its Boeing fleet of aircraft about 20% of all economy class seats will be upgraded to Economy X.
