Virgin Blue boost for Uluru
BRISBANE – Virgin Blue Holdings will launch daily flights from Sydney to Uluru in the Northern Territory in August.
Currently, only Qantas flies to Uluru from Sydney. Its subsidiary QantasLink has services from Alice Springs, Cairns and Perth.
Virgin Blue chief executive Brett Godfrey said, “We expect to find the only airline currently operating on the route will see fit to suddenly offer more reasonable fares.”
Virgin Blue will fly Embraer E-190 jet aircraft, which can carry up to 104 passengers on the route from August 2.
Chief executive of Voyages Hotels & Resorts, Chris Tallent, said the new flights would “provide terrific opportunities for renewed growth, expansion and promotion of the regionâ€.
Voyages Ayers Rock Resort, which sits at the gateway to the dual World Heritage-listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, provides accommodation options for the more than 300,000 visitors attracted to the Rock each year.
Virgin Blue introductory fares start from $149 one-way, with normal fares $199 one-way.
