Virgin Blue passengers asked to leave aircraft
A report in The Herald Sun says that passengers on a Virgin Blue flight were stunned when crew asked for volunteers to get off because the jet was too heavy.
Flight 647 from Melbourne to Cairns was delayed yesterday as passengers were told the 737 wouldn’t have enough fuel for the trip.
Eventually, three men volunteered to leave and the flight left after their luggage was removed and they were compensated with travel vouchers.
A Virgin Blue spokeswoman said bad weather in Melbourne on Thursday night had caused some flights to be diverted around Australia.
She said the 737 made available for the Cairns service had a lower weight capacity than the originally scheduled jet.
