The travel industry has dominated Australia’s inaugural Randstad Awards, recognising the country’s most attractive employers with three airlines and two travel agents recognised in the Top 20.

Virgin Blue took top honours, voted the country’s most attractive employer, with Qantas placing second and BHP Billiton picking up third place.

Jetset Travelworld, Jetstar and Flight Centre were named in the Top 20.

Launched in Belgium in 2000, this year, for the first time in a decade, the Randstad awards shifted outside of Europe to 11 countries around the world, including Australia and New Zealand.

The Randstad Awards are decided via feedback from the public. Companies cannot nominate themselves or determine categories or criteria for entry.

Randstad is a Fortune 500 Company and one of the world’s largest recruitment & HR services providers.

Randstad CEO Fred van der Tang paid a special tribute to Virgin Blue. “Since entering the Australian market 11 years ago, Virgin Blue has built upon its reputation as one of the nation’s most respected brands,” he said.

This year’s awards canvassed the opinions of 7,000 jobseekers in Australia.

Van der Tang said with global skills shortages intensifying, the importance of strong employer branding and company perception amongst potential and existing employees should not be underestimated.
