Virgin Holidays adds ‘sun safe concierge’ service
Virgin Holidays reps are being asked to keep a look out for customers who’ve been in the sun too long, in an attempt to raise awareness of skin cancer.
The operator says it will appoint a dedicated ‘sun safe concierge’ in each of its resort locations in 2014, who will be "trained to spot customers who are in danger of getting burnt, and…help with any necessary preventative actions they might need to take".
It’s one of several initiatives to promote sensible tanning that Virgin has planned for 2014, as part of an agreement with sun safety awareness charity SKCIN.
Former Olympic swimmer Mark Foster has agreed to be the launch ‘tanbassador’, kicking off 12 months of initiatives aimed at sun safety awareness.
Virgin Holidays shops will distribute information booklets, an information leaflet will be included in all customer ticket wallets and there will information on safe tanning on the Virgin Holidays website.
SKCIN (The Karen Clifford Skin Cancer Charity), was set up by the family of Karen Clifford, who died of skin cancer in 2005.
Virgin Holidays managing director Andrew Shelton said: "Over 60% of our customers consider a tan to be one of the most important things they want when they book with us.
"But we want them to be safe in the sun."
