Virgin Holidays cuts out post costs with e-delivery deal

Friday, 02 May, 2006 0

Virgin Holidays has become the 50th European tour operator to sign up to an electronic document delivery service.

The three year deal with the AXS-One e-Delivery service will allow the operator to communicate electronically with travel agents, eliminating postage and printing costs. Virgin Holidays estimates that it prints and posts an average of 375,000 invoices per year to its agents in the UK and Ireland.

The service was originally developed for the UK travel industry to reduce operational costs by transforming paper-based invoicing processes to electronic invoicing systems. Launched in April 2005 with authorisation from the Civil Aviation Authority and ABTA, it has attracted 4,600 UK travel agents, representing 68% of the UK travel agent community.

The service is being extended to enable Irish travel agents to receive documents from UK tour operators.

AXS-One managing director Mark Donkersley said: “The service has really come a long way since its launch and with the upgrade in functionality now allowing non ABTA bonded agents to benefit from electronic document delivery, we are looking forward to expanding the service across Europe.”
