Virgin introduces charge for sports bags
Virgin Atlantic is to introduce a £65 charge for the carriage of sports equipment from August 31.
Under the existing policy, passengers are allowed one piece of sports equipment free of charge in addition to their standard baggage allowance.
However, all passengers who book on or after August 31 will have to either use their standard luggage allowance to carry sports equipment or pay the additional charge.
The sports bag must weigh no more than 23kgs and be no larger than 190x75x65 cms.
The new charges will hit golfers and skiers, amongst other sports travellers.
Virgin’s move brings it into line with British Airways, which also charges for any sports bags carried in addition to checked luggage.
