Virgin Holidays has acquired some of the assets of former Florida specialist operator Travel City Direct.
It has purchased the Travel City Direct customer database and the rights to the Travel City Direct trademarks for an undisclosed sum.
This follows the collapse of Travel City parent company XL Leisure Group in September.
Virgin Holidays said it was still deciding whether the Travel City Direct brand “has a role within its portfolio”.
More details are expected in the new year.
Virgin Holidays managing director Amanda Wills said:“As the Number 1 UK operator to Florida we believe it right to acquire some of these assets, to allow Travel City Direct customers to continue to be served in the future.
“We have an extensive Florida product offering, excellent customer service and over 22 years of experience selling holidays to Florida, we can offer customers either packaged and tailor made holidays with full ATOL protection flying on scheduled airlines”
Wills added: “As an industry leader, it is also important that we assist where possible with business decisions that restore consumer confidence in general for the travel sector.
“Immediately after the collapse of the XL Leisure Group, Virgin Holidays offered all Travel City Direct customers the option of transferring balances on holidays booked to any of our own holidays worldwide.
“Our team in Florida was also instrumental in the CAA’s operation to repatriate Travel City Direct stranded customers”
