VisitBritain accused of gross miss-use of public funds, anti-competitive practices and bullying tactics!
Instead of spending their money where they should be – trying to address the tourism balance of trade deficit, VB, once again, is using our taxes to duplicate services, already delivered by numerous private businesses, merely to sell an effectual and therefore, unpopular product www.accommodationknowhow.co.uk is new a service offered free of charge to VB quality assessed businesses which directly competes with services already delivered by the private sector. The primary job of VB is to bring tourists into the country. With the current tourism balance of trade deficit still growing, surely they should be concentrating on generating more business for the country and not pulling the rug out from underneath hard working businesses that are already fighting a global recession. There are numerous private and public organisations, including my own business that could and already does deliver these services – often without charge. Instead of supporting private sector enterprise, why are VB spending considerable sums of our money setting up competing services or restrictive practices – again This anti-competitive practice is blatantly a tool created to add value to their unwanted grading scheme; a scheme which, due to VB dictates, is already responsible for restraints on fair trading – in many areas a tourism business cannot be marketed by their local tourist board unless they are quality graded. At the very least, this money could have been used to communicate to the general public, the point of this awful scheme, but no, VB chooses to spend it’s time complaining about not having enough money whilst wasting the money we already give them in projects such as this. This latest mis-use of public money has, once again, put VisitBritain at the centre of a row about it’s ethics and trading practices – what gives these people the right to use our tax money to drive legitimate businesses out of business! We call on tourism business owners to demand from their MP’s that VisitBritain stop using our money to interfere with the private sector and tell to get on with the job set out for them! We also call for tourism businesses to vote with their feet and take their VB grading to the AA or better still, drop this ineffectual grading scheme altogether! Our taxes are being used to create services, already delivered by numerous private businesses, merely to sell an unpopular product Caroline Webster MD OurSource Ltd
