VisitBritain invites politicans to support British Tourism Week
VisitBritain has been writing to politicians up and down the country to get them to support British Tourism Week.
The organisation is urging MPs to back the event by getting involved in tourism businesses in their constituencies and work in them for a day.
According to head of government affairs Bernard Donoghue one minister from mid-Bedfordshire has already agreed to set a day aside to spend with local tourism businesses.
“If we can replicate that across the UK then a lot of information about tourism will get back to No. 10,” said Donoghue.
During British Tourism Week, from 12 to 18 March, 121 tourism events will take place across the country.
Tourism Alliance policy director Kurt Janson said the event had taken off really well and captured people’s imaginations.
“The industry is fragmented and trying to pull it all together has been the wish of many people for many years.”
Hoseasons’ product director Sara Zimmerman said accommodation owners were taking advantage of the event to contact local MPs and raise the profile of the industry.
“If it gets issues on the table it can’t be a bad thing,” she said.
