Volunteering under spotlight
Tourism Concern to hold conference
Tourism Concern is organising a one day conference aimed at prospective volunteers and those interested in ‘voluntourism’ on Saturday 25th October. The full day event will include discussion groups, presentations and a chance to speak to past volunteers and members of the Tourism Concern Ethical Volunteering Group.
Says Tourism Concern: "Volunteering overseas on development projects is rapidly growing in popularity and increasing numbers of adventure tour operators offering ‘voluntourism’ packages."
"Serious questions have arisen about how some such projects are managed and how the benefits are being shared. It is also a challenge for prospective volunteers to identify organisations that embrace best practice."
The event will be held at the Braithwaite Hall in Croydon, South London with charges from £25 for students. Tourism Concern Members receive a 50% discount on above price Gold Members receive a 75% discount.
