Warning of “high terror threat” in Russia
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is warning of a “high general threat” of terrorism in the Russian Federation, following a suicide attack in the middle of Moscow that left at least six dead. Some 13 people were seriously injured in the attack, which took place just a few hundred metres from the presidential office near Red Square. The explosion has widely been blamed on Chechen separatists. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) website, at www.fco.gov.uk/travel, states: “There is a high general threat from terrorism in Russia, including suicide bombings. You should be particularly vigilant in public places, including tourist sites.”
