Watch out for items falling from the overhead bins

Thursday, 11 Sep, 2015 0

Flight attendants are always professional during a flight and not ones to get up to any mischief – or so you would think. The recent hashtag #overheadbin has given a small insight into what the cabin crew get up to once all the passengers have left. The craze has emerged on Instagram and shows a number of air stewards climbing into the overhead bins. Images include individual shots as well as groups of colleagues cramming themselves in to the compact places. One flight attendant even commented that it is a rite of passage for a flight attendant to complete this challenge.

The heart-rendering images and stories of refugees have prompted a huge outpouring of outrage and shock across media platforms and as a consequence many have sprung to action to help out as much as possible. In one such case, InflightFeed has proposed its ‘Help the Refugees’ campaign which aims to charter an aircraft from London to Kos on 27 September 2015, taking 130 people and as many useful aid items with them including blankets, toothbrushes, pillow etc. to distribute when they land. They now require volunteers, aid items and an aircraft to make this fantastic idea possible. If you are able to help then follow the link to sign up and help here!

The Apple Event took place this week, revealing what is coming next from the tech giant. With the introduction of 3D Touch, an Apple Pencil and ‘Emergency Selfie’ button there was a mixed response on Twitter. The Apple Pencil is a stylus designed for drawing, aimed at professional artists and was designed to be used with the new large iPad Pro which can detect position, force and tilt. Both Apple and the hashtag #AppleEvent were trending on Twitter but it was the ‘Emergency Selfie’ button that evoked the biggest reaction on social media with Twitter users questioning the necessity and validity of the new feature. One user tweeted ‘I just heard the words "Emergency Selfie" I’m leaving this planet @tkylemac’. As with any major news, social media has reacted accordingly with a number of hilarious new memes in response to the company’s latest developments.

And finally, globetrotters are renowned for having the latest gadgets and fashions, and it appears there is a new must-have item to add to the tech-savvy wardrobe list. Baubax, the ‘world’s best’ travel jacket started as a small Kickstarter project looking to raise $20,000, when it quickly smashed the target raising a staggering $9m and became the most funded piece of clothing in Kickstarter’s history. So, what is so special about it? Pockets. Lots of them, 15 in fact, all specially designed to fit all the gadgets a traveller could possibly need. If you’re ever stuck with an over-stuffed suitcase before getting on to an airline with a stingy baggage allowance, then this might just be the travel item for you!
