Watch out for Skinny Dipping Aristocrats in Croatian Waters
Croatia is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most rapidly growing European destinations for Australian travelers, but Croatia’s Adriatic coast has been a popular destination for Europeans in the know for years.
The history of organized naturist vacations in Croatia goes back to the 1930’s and the island of Rab is rightly referred to as the pioneer of naturism on the Adriatic, because that is where in August 1936, King Edward VIII stayed there and the Rab authorities allowed him and his wife to take a nude swim in the bay of Kandarola.
That’s why this bay is nowadays sometimes called “English Beach” or “Engleska plaza”.
Croatia was the first country in Europe to start the concept of commercial naturist resorts, when in other European countries naturism was limited to member clubs only, with the first naturist camps opening in Istra and Dalmatia, with the oldest naturist resort in Croatia at Koversada celebrating its 40th birthdya in 2001!
With naked aristocrats a common sight once on and off Croatia’s Dalmatian coast, if you island hop with Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre you may still encounter a specimen of this endangered species.
Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre offer three main options for island hopping in Croatia.
Croatia Cruises offers a range of cruises using vintage sailing ships.
1. There are six cruise options of the vintage yachts with prices starting from $552 per person twin share. This is a popular option for budget travelers.
2. There is a more upmarket 7 day cruise from Venice to Dubrovnik on the MS Dalmacija which takes in views of many of Croatia’s 900 islands. Prices for this cruise are from $1107 pp twin share.
3. Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre is also offering an island hopping package in Croatia which includes hotels, ferry fares and tours on the islands of Hvar and Korcula . The program includes Spilt and Dubrovnik and a range of other popular sites in Croatia.
We don’t guarantee aristocratic or any other type of skinny dippers but keep your eyes peeled!
