The Met Office has warned the public to prepare for travel disruption as a band of sleet and snow is expected to move across the UK today.

Snowfalls of 2-5 cm at low levels and as much as 10 cm at higher levels are likely to occur, mostly within a three to four hour period.

Areas put on an amber warning to be prepared include the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside and East Midlands.

Scotland, North West England, West Midlands, East of England, South West England as well as London and the South East are to ‘be aware’.

The website said: "The public should be prepared for the risk of disruption, particularly to travel."

Airports across the country were anticipating adverse weather following warnings over the weekend but are not currently experiencing delays or cancellations.
