Where is John O’Neill’s report on Tourism in New South Wales?
Regular TravelMolers will recall that The Mole has been pretty tenacious in following up on what is potentially destined to be the most important report potentially ever produced related to the future of toursim in New South Wales.
Of course, I am referring to the John O’Neill report, but the sad part is the amazing amount of time that has elapsed since the commissioing of the work by former and now reappointed ARU CEO John O’Neill.
Calls to Tourism New South Wales and Minister Matt Brown’s office regrarding what is happening re the report are redirected to the Premier’s office and although the Premier’s spokesperson Alison Hill is very pleasant and professional, a call this morning resulted in Alison not knowing what the positon was with this critical report, but she said whe would find out and get back to The Mole! So watch this space!
Interstingly while Les Cassar, Chairman of TNSW said last year that he hoped that the report would be far reaching, Tourism Minister Matt Brown at one point last year said that the report was on his desk and another time that he had not received it and another time said that it was being collated, yet others at the same time said in Government said that the report was still awaited.
The Mole was also told that the report had been delayed because John O’Neill was at Rugby World Cup and then further dealyed apparently because John O’Neill was in hospital with his back.
Minsiter Matt, you need to know that The Mole is increasingly getting calls from the industry asking what the status of the report is and saying that the delays are beginning to reflect how little the NSW Government values tourism.
One even said that this was simply not good enough and smacked of Sandra Nori’s rule, when it appears reports such as this, when they were perhaps not liked by the State Government, disappeared into the black hole of the Minister’s in tray!
So Minister Matt, the Mole respectully suggests that you act now to minimise the damage to you reputation, if nothing else.
You have a good reputation to date – don’t risk losing it!
