Wi-Fi coming soon to airlines
Internet access on commercial airlines could come as early as late next year, says the president and CEO of AirCell Inc., a Louisville-based company that provides Wi-Fi on private jets.
“I’ve talked to a number of CEOS, and the consensus is that the airlines need to accommodate passengers or go out of business,” AirCell Inc. CEO Jack Blumenstein told the Denver Business Journal.
Regulatory hurdles and reluctance from airlines could delay the move, however.
The time has come to bring broadband onboard, argues Mr Blumenstein.
Venture capital firms agree; they have invested millions of dollars into the privately held AirCell.
Any Wi-Fi use will have to be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Federal Communications Commission.
