Wild weather batters Queensland tourism
An ABC report says that the tourism industry says the severe weather conditions across south-east Queensland are starting to hurt some businesses on the Gold and Sunshine coasts.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council head Daniel Gschwind says holiday-makers are thinking twice about heading to the region because of bad weather and the bureau’s prediction of more to come.
He says the beaches are normally a major attraction but they have been severely damaged by the rough conditions along the coast.
“It is having an impact of course, but the weather is one of those things that both residents and visitors and tourists just have to live with,” he said.
“Clearly tourism operators like the rest of us need the water to sustain the economy and sustain the lifestyle that we here.
“It is a welcome relief to all in sundry and unfortunately we have to put up the inconvenience of rainy days.”
