Win a holiday with the cannibals!

A new magazine is offering one lucky reader the holiday of a lifetime – two weeks with a tribe of cannibals in the rainforests of Papua New Guinea. According to The Independent, the opportunity comes about because “seasoned traveller” Reg Barker’s wife decided not to make the trip to the Baliem Valley to live with the tribe. He appealed for anyone with £2,000 to spare to join him – but now the magazine has stumped up the cash. Mr Barker, who has been visiting the tribe for some 25 years, reportedly said: “They have always been friendly to me. I first heard of these tribes back in the 80s but nothing could have prepared me for meeting them. They all have amazing piercings, tusks in their noses and often wear nothing but long penis gourds.” He tried to assure potential entrants that the cannibalism aspect was nothing to worry about, adding: “The really bad ones are the Korowai’s neighbours, the Asmat, and they haven’t eaten a westerner for 40 years.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
